Bailey Rolls On
A few years ago, when I was visiting London, I was given a copy of Bill Bailey's first book, "Taping Whores." I was introduced to a marvelous new character called "Haug." He reminded me of a modern day Phillip Marlowe. Through Haug, I met a whole string of fascinating characters that pulled me through an often deliciously violent, spicily sexual, politically intricate plot. As I zoomed through the pages, I slowly became aware this writer was much more than a slick storyteller. The words he was writing sounded as good out loud as inside my head. Even more, I frequently was lead to putting down the book and thinking in depth about the twists and turns of the plot. It was like peeling back the layers of an onion. Each layer revealed an even more thoughtful point. Since then, I have read both "Split Infinities" and "Rolling Thunder" and found each one to be a next step both in the stories and in the writer's evolution of politcal thought. When you both laugh out loud and think in depth while reading a book, it's time to get the word out. This guy is a fine writer, and he needs to be encouraged to write more.
Visiting Bill Bailey's personal website, I discovered there are two more books in the "Haug Quintet" waiting to be published! Let's get them out quick. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Shining Through: Pulling It Together After Sexual Abuse
Published in Paperback by Safer Society Pr (December, 1994)

This is great!
I am a social worker who serves child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending caregivers. Most of the victims I see are or have been in counseling. Many still need help in working through the trauma of abuse. I have given many copies of "Shining Through" to these young ladies or their mothers. I have many books on recovering from sexual abuse but this one is the best book I've found for speaking to these young victims at their level of feeling and understanding. It is appropriate for the teen who tunes out authorities and for the girl who needs a tool for working through issues with her caregiver. I heartily recommend it.

Sistahs in College: Making a Way Out of No Way
Published in Hardcover by Krieger Publishing Company (15 November, 2000)
Author: Juanita Johnson-Bailey

Sistahs in College - Telling An Important Story
Juanita Johnson-Bailey has delivered, what I am convinced will be, a qualitative classic on research about Black women who return to/go to college after being away from school for several years.

The participants in her study are diverse, and yet their voices meld together to tell the story of a Black woman determined, focused, fearful yet not afraid to overcome in order to fulfill her dream of completing her college education.

"Sistahs" breaks the mold for what you expect research to be -- it is not dry, but bold, engaging and difficult to put down. It is layered in the complexities and "isms" of sexism and racisim that Black women face on a daily basis.

"Sistahs" helps to fill the void on Black reentry female college students, and tells the all-important story of the determination and will of Black women that has been key to their survival in this country.

Woman enters into the man's auction industry.
It doesn't matter if your in the auction business, just starting in the auction business, interested in reading about the auction business, or curious about reading examples of a woman entering into a man's profession, you will enjoy this lighthearted easy to read auto-biography by Emma Bailey. Emma passed away late in 1999 but her legacy will live on through every woman auctioneer in the United States. Emma was the first woman auctioneer to be accepted into the National Auctioneers Association. In Sold! to the Lady in the Green Hat Emma takes you on a journey through the beginning of women in the auction business and shares many true life stories from her beginning years as a auctioneer. Adversities of being a woman in the auction business were many, she even lost an auction from a bank because the competition ( a man ) told the banker she shouldn't have the auction because he had a family to feed and needed to do the auction himself! Emma teaches many lessons in this book; struggles of women for equality in the business industry, determination, business morals, and the need for humor in life. I strongly recommend Sold! to the Lady in the Green Hat to any reader! Definitely a 5 Star Book.

Soul and Its Mechanism
What is the soul? Where is it located? What is the influence of the glands on human behavior? What is the Etheric or Vital Body that is so oft mentioned by those persons, who seem to be in the know? Behind these questions are forces, which Alice Bailey manages to explain comprehensibly in 150 or so pages. Easy to read, a bit more difficult to digest. Anyone interested in the human body will learn a bit more about the glandular system and the important part it plays in our natural and spiritual life.
